“And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, and no compensation will be accepted from it, nor will any intercession benefit it, nor will they be aided.” (Al-Baqarah, 2:123)
Allah alone is the eternal supreme power () who has created the heavens, the earth and all that is between them for a transitory period. All these things have to face their doom. Allah () has revealed to us about the aforesaid in the Glorious Qur’an.
“We did not create the heavens and earth and what is between them except in truth and [for] a specified term.” (Al-‘Ahqaf, 46:3)
The verses of the Qur’an further tells us that the creation of the entire universe is only a temporary arrangement and after the occurrence of Doomsday, the whole arrangement will go to rack and ruin.
“The Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a [written] sheet for the records. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it.” (Al-‘Anbya’, 21:104)
Keeping the above facts in view, every Muslim believes in the occurrence of Doomsday. The Glorious Qur’an as well as the ahadeeth have revealed to us about its occurrence.
“On the Day of Resurrection, the Sun will come near (to, the people) to such an extent that the sweat will reach up to the middle of the ears.” (Saheeh, Bukharee)
Among the old commentators of the Qur’an and hadeeth, Alqama and Shabi are of the opinion that before the appearance of the Doomsday, other signs like the Sun rising from the west will appear.
“Then when the Horn is blown with one blast, And the earth and mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow – Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur.” (Al-Haqqah, 69:13-15)
In a hadeeth referred by Ibn Jarir, Tibrani and Ibn Abi Hatim from the description of Abu Huraira (), Prophet () said that there will be three occasions of the blowing of the trumpet. The first blow will be called Nafekhe Fezza, the second blow, Nafekhe Saaq, and the third blow, Nafekhe Qayam al Rabbul aalameen.
On different spots, the Qur’an has sketched this scenario.
“And [warn of] the Day the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will be terrified except whom Allah wills. And all will come to Him humbled. And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds.” (An-Naml 27:87-88)
“And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.” (Az-Zumar, 39:68)
“When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness], And when the stars fall, dispersing,” (At-Takwir, 81:1-2)
That is, sun beams will be encircled within its photosphere, chromosphere and corona, consequently, losing its brilliance. The natural laws controlling the stars on their orbits will be released, and the stars shall fall and be scattered to pieces in the endless space, becoming dark, and losing their luster.
“And when the seas are erupted, And when the [contents of] graves are scattered.” (Al-‘Infitar 82:3-4)
“Hearts, that Day, will tremble.” (An-Nazi`at, 79:8)
THE FIRST STAGE
When the trumpet is blown for the first time (Nafekhe Fezza), there shall be universal confusion, terror and chaos prevailing among every living being.
“On the Day you see it every nursing mother will be distracted from that [child] she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicated; but the punishment of Allah is severe.” (Al-Haj, 22:2)
THE SECOND STAGE
When the trumpet is blown for the second time (Nafekhe saaq), all of the living beings including mankind will fall dead. The word ‘saaq’ means, ‘to be dead.’
THE THIRD STAGE
With the third blow, every cataclysmic phenomenon will come to an end. At this stage, the earth as well as the firmaments shall look totally changed.
“[It will be] on the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], and all creatures will come out before Allah , the One, the Prevailing.” (‘Ibrahim, 14:48)
And everyone’s deed, whatever they’ve earned in this life, will be shown to them.
“That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds. So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.” (Az-Zalzalah, 996-8)
