Trial of Dajjal

Why is the coming of Dajjal the greatest trial for human beings?

The Prophet (ﷺ) informed us that the trial of Maseeh ad-Dajjal is severe. He (ﷺ) said:

“There is no trial from the time of Adam’s creation until the last hour greater than that of Dajjal.”[1]

He said that Dajjal wouldn’t appear until after three years in which, the first year of those three years, Allah will hold back one-third of the rain and one-third of the crops, two-thirds of rain and crops will be held in the second year, and the rain will be withheld completely in the third year. This is the time when Maseeh ad-Dajjaal will appear. These conditions make the trial hard because Dajjal will bring a mountain of bread and meat with him. As he will move about the earth, he will call people to accept him as god, and as the conditions will be severe and people will be in a state of starvation, they will easily believe that he is Allah. Those who would believe, he will command the sky to rain that area and the rain will fall and the land will grow trees and crops. He will cause the sky to rain before their very eyes. The tree will grow with fruits will grow up. Furthermore, those people who refuse to believe in him, they will find all of their properties lost. All of their wealth which they stored up will gone. Also, he will have with him two rivers, one of them filled with lava and the other one with cool, white water. One will represent his paradise and the other will represent his hell. The treasure of the earth will come out as he would move around the earth. The people will follow him like a swarm of bees. He will enter all of the cities on the earth with the exception of Makkah and Madinah. When Dajjal would try to go to the outskirts of Madinah and stop there, three earthquakes will shake the city. Following that, disbelievers and hypocrites will come out from the city because of the earthquakes and will follow Dajjal. One may wonder how does Madinah have disbelievers in it. They will be people who will Muslim only by name and would pretend to be Muslims. This is the trial of Dajjal which one would hardly imagine.

Furthermore, he will approach certain people among which will be Bedouins, and will ask them if he were to resurrect their parents will they testify that he is their Lord. When they say yes, two devils from the Jinn will appear before them, one looking like the father and the other like the mother and they will order them to follow him because he is their Lord. This is a very serious trial. He will also bring people back to life. He will cut people in half, walk between the halves and command that body part to come back together to life.
