Is it permissible to wear charms containing Qur’anic verses if one is not able to read Qur’an or recite the verses of ruqya (mu'awwidatayn)? If wearing amulets is not permissible, then isn’t it the same as eating medicines for health purposes, that is, amulets are used for protection, so what is the harm?
There exists no evidence that it is okay to write mu'awwidatayn if you can’t recite it.
Secondly, we have been forbidden from wearing amulets; therefore using it as a cure is curing with haraam and the Prophet (ﷺ) prohibited us from using haraam as medication.
Taking medicine is not an act of worship therefore it is different to this case.< Back to Questions
