How do I respond to a person who says, “God is all Great, Merciful and One God of all. Since He has made me a Christian, He cannot put me into hell?”
A person, who is born in the family of a robber, cannot say, that since he is born in a robber’s family, he will also become a robber, and continue the legacy of his father, for which he should not be punished, though he realizes that robbing is bad. Similarly, how can one say that one cannot be punished for adopting a false religion of one’s family though he realizes that it’s false?
Allah is merciful but at the same time He is also just. He has already stated in His last and final revelation i.e. the Qur’an that He will not forgive the sin of associating partners with Him, if, the person comes to Him with that sin on the Day of Judgment, without repenting in this world.
“Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for which He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin”
So, tell the person that Allah has sent you to inform him or her of the truth, so if he or she remains a Christian after learning the truth, it will be their own choice and therefore they can fairly be put in hell for rejecting the truth.
