8 Primary Emotions

Why is love missing in the 8 primary emotions given by Robert Plutchik?

Apart from the primary emotions, we have mixed emotions. Mixed emotions are emotions which are a combination of two or more primary emotions. For example, fear (primary emotion) and anticipation (primary emotion) produce anxiety (mixed emotion). According to Plutchik, love is not a primary emotion because it is a combination of joy and trust.

Thus, joy (primary emotion) + trust (primary emotion) = Love (mixed emotion)

It is also interesting to note that the 8 are not the only primary emotions according to those other than Plutchik. Some have added more emotions to this list and deleted some as well. Some even say there are only 6 or 7 primary emotions, one of them being love.

Of course, this can be debated back and forth.
