When Imam Bukhaari had to pinpoint a deviant or a liar, he would only mention the words ‘his credibility is questioned’. He would never blame a person outright even if the masses knew of the person’s evil. It was because of this, Imam Bukhaari was able to make his statement by which he was sure he could stand in front of Allaah with a clear conscience.
As Muslims striving in the cause of Allah, we should have our own criterion to determine if our society is in a positive state or in a decline. We should not depend on rulers or mass media which are not always honest or may be under coercive measures and far from independent to avoid bias or false perceptions. An analysis of history and especially Islamic history can be conducted to investigate this subject. Yet more importantly, the Prophet (SAW) has provided us with many of these barometers in his statements and actions, that provide a wonderful criterion to judge our neighborhood or even the world as a whole.
Qur’an emphasizes on the role of the human hearts in mental, emotional and spiritual decisions of man.Of these Qur'anic statements, some describe this sentient organ as having the capacity of being a center of reasoning, intentions and decision-making. Consequently, human hearts can either be healthy or diseased.
