Muslims need to Love the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)

Why do we, as Muslims, need to love the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) doesn’t need our love and certainly Allah does not need our love. We need to love him (ﷺ) because he (ﷺ) is the key to paradise, the only way we will get back to paradise.

Allah has told us in the Quran:

"Indeed in the Messenger of Allâh, {Muhammad, (ﷺ)} you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day and remembers Allâh much." [1]

For those who believe that they will enter paradise simply because they were born in Muslim families, or have Muslim sounding names and Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is not the best of example for them, life is for them is the same like as any other Christian or Jews, who claim that they are sure to enter paradise because he believes in the crucifixion of Christ and the Jew believes that he is chosen.

Allah describes those who believer in such way in scornful terms, and fallen into the trap of Satan. ‘If they are invited to follow the way of the Prophet (ﷺ)’… this is not what your fathers did or what we do in our countries or I am Hanafee or Shafiee.

The same reply was given by the pagans of Makkah,

When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed; come to the Messenger": they say: "Enough for us are the ways we found our fathers following." What! Even though their fathers were void of knowledge and guidance?" [2]

This was what prevented Abu Talib from accepting Islam when he was on his deathbed, his brothers asked him whether he would dishonor his forefathers or people, and he adhered to his religions. He is destined to hell fire forever but with least punishment; only his heel will be in fire and it is enough for his brains to boil.
