Why does Islam recommend the use of right hand for most/some of the acts?
In Islam it is encouraged to do certain acts with the right hand. We should favor the use of right hand while wearing the pants, while entering the masjid, when cleaning our body and putting on our shoes. The reason why Islam prefers the right to the left is to give organization in the life of human being so that they may be different from animals. Unlike animals who act only based on their instinct, human beings are given intellectual ability to organize. When we organize the different aspects of our life, the quality of our life improves. It also helps us remember Allah. Following the example of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is an act of obedience to Allah. Allah says in the Qur’an:
“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah the best example…”
Furthermore, when Allah describes the people who will enter Paradise, He mentions that they will receive the book of good deeds in their right hand, while those who will enter Hell will receive their book of deeds in their left hand behind their back. We want to be among the righteous who receive their book of deeds in their right hand, who choose the right over the wrong. So, though these practices may seem minor, they help us on our path to Paradise.
