Is it a fair statement to say that a lesson from Seerah is that as Muslims, we should fight only to defend ourselves and for survival? There are instances in the Seerah when our Prophet (ﷺ) invited chiefs of other tribes/countries to Islam but if they did not accept, war would ensue. Were these because they transgressed their bounds first?
Yes, this is the viewpoint and position of Muslims globally. War is not used at this stage to spread or enforce Islam.
Instances where the Prophet (ﷺ) declared war was when other tribes or nations refused to submit to the laws of the Islamic state by paying Jizyah, or there were previous lands continuing transgressions against the Muslims.< Back to Questions
