You will be a happier person if you can avoid toxic family members and set boundaries. Setting boundaries is not easy; it means saying “no” and limiting contact. Just because people are related to you does not give them the right to be hurtful and dishonest. Family members are supposed to love and support one another.
Almost every family relationship will experience broken trust at some point. It is normal for trust levels to rise and fall over the course of a relationship. Some toxic family relationships can be repaired in the long run, but both people must be willing to work at self-growth.
Often, we can get too caught up in our busy lives to really take a step back and wonder at Allah’s creation. Taking some time out to really pay attention to what’s around us can have this incredibly relaxing effect. Notice the beauty in Allah’s creation, from the leaves on a tree, the beautiful blossoming flower, the tweeting bird, the sky at night or a beautiful sunset.
Sometimes, it is difficult to totally separate yourself from toxic people. This is when you need to use coping strategies to help you cope with such people. Coping strategies are actions that help you to remain calm and relaxed during stressful situations. Examples include making duaa to Allah SWT, going for a walk, talking to a caring person or sipping hot tea.
